Home Giving Stories of Hope Carrie
Carrie
Carrie*, 16, had been physically abused by her father for at least two years, but was too scared and ashamed to tell anyone. Her mother finally discovered what was going on when the bruises couldn’t be explained, so she tried to leave her husband. It took two tries.

Carrie first began to lose interest in her favorite hobbies, stopped hanging out with friends at school, and eventually stopped leaving the house all together.
But Carrie’s problems remained and she had at least two unsuccessful bouts with therapy prior to coming through our doors. Carrie began the CGC’s Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy program. Over the course of five months, she was able to express her feelings of anxiety in a safe way to both the therapist and her mother, leading her to be able to make tremendous progress. She currently has her driver’s permit, has restarted school and returned to the honor roll, and no longer suffers from daily panic attacks. She regained a social life. She kept in touch with her therapist, who was very happy to hear that she recently started college and is living on campus. She is a true success.
