Family Counseling Centers CMHA provides individual, family and group psychotherapy for children and families experiencing personal, emotional, family and parenting, and substance abuse problems. The counseling program is staffed by licensed marriage and family therapists, social workers, and counselors, as well as board certified psychiatrists and APRN’s.
Office hours: 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday, with evening hours by appointment.
The New Britain program is open until 8:00 pm on Tuesday through Thursday, The Lakeville program is open until 7:00 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday. Torrington program is open Monday from 8:00 am-8:00 pm, Tuesday-Thursday 8:00 am-6:00 pm, Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm, and Saturday 9:00 am-1:00 pm. The New Milford program is open Monday & Wednesday from 12:00-7:00 pm, Tuesday & Thursday from 10:00 am-7:00 pm, and Friday from 9:00 am-6:00 pm.
Child Guidance Clinic (CGC) 26 Russell Street, New Britain, CT 06052 (860) 223-2778 The CGC provides a comprehensive array of behavioral health services to children, adolescents and their families living in Central Connecticut. Individual, family and group modalities are utilized in accordance with a treatment plan developed by the client/family and the clinician. Psychiatric assessment and medication management are also provided.
Clients and families are assisted with behavioral problems, ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma, substance abuse, difficulties in school, and aggression. Issues related to family disruption such as divorce, visitation and reunification are also addressed. Specialty groups are also available and include Anger Management, Focus on Friendship, Coping with Change, Stepping Stones, Second Time Around (support for grandparents), Strong Families and Positive Parenting.
Services are provided by Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, Social Workers, Psychologists, Child Psychiatrists, and Licensed Counselors. The clinic is open Monday to Thursday from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm, and on Friday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Services are also provided on an outreach basis to homes and schools. Funding for the Clinic and its programs is partially provided by the Department of Children and Families and the United Way of Central Connecticut.
Southington Outpatient Clinic Office 37 Main Street, Southington, CT 06489 (860) 628-6958 The Southington office of the Child Guidance Clinic offers services to children, adolescents and their families living in Southington. Services are provided on Mondays at First Congregational Church from noon to 8:00 pm. Individual and family sessions are provided by a Licensed Clinician and psychiatric services are available at the main clinic site in New Britain.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Program (PTSD) 26 Russell Street, New Britain, CT 06052 (860) 223-2778 The PTSD Program is located at the CMHA Child Guidance Clinic and targets adolescent girls aged 13 to 17 who have witnessed violence or suffered from traumas such as violence, rape, physical or sexual abuse. The program utilizes a Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment model, supplemented, where appropriate, with medication. It is guided by gender specific and trauma sensitive intervention strategies. Treatment is provided by Licensed Clinical Social Workers or Licensed Family Therapists trained in trauma work. The program is partially supported by the United Way.
